How Tospeak works

You open a lesson in the browser and talk to an AI tutor that appears as a video avatar. It listens and answers out loud in English, and Tospeak says it adapts to your level. During the lesson it corrects by repeating your sentence in a better form, and slides, vocabulary cards, a live transcript and captions appear on screen. There are 19 AI tutors with different styles, and you can switch tutor mid-lesson.

Topics include Travel English, Job Interview, Hotel and Check-in, Restaurant Dining, Doctor's Visit, Shopping and Returns, Phone and Voicemail, Small Talk Mastery, Debate Practice, Storytelling and free conversation, plus separate topics for children and teenagers. After adult lessons with enough talking, you get a recap: a summary, what went well, up to three corrections that quote your own sentences, new words and one next step.

Lessons are always in English. On the English site and the Spanish, French, German, Hindi, Russian, Portuguese, Japanese and Italian versions, you can mix in a word in one of those languages or Dutch when you get stuck. On every other version, including Hebrew and Arabic, speech recognition listens for English only.

Prices checked on 25 October 2026. A paid plan adds talking time only: tutors, topics and lesson history come with any account. Billing is monthly, in US dollars, with no annual plan. At 20 minutes a day, the Daily plan works out at about $2 per hour of conversation (our arithmetic); a human teacher typically costs several times that per hour.

Privacy and children

Tospeak does not record lesson audio or video, and the camera image is never sent. Lessons for children and teenagers always run with content moderation, get no recap and send no usage events. A parent can review, correct or delete a child's data. There is no parent dashboard and no separate child sign-in.

A good fit if

Is Tospeak a real person?
No. Every Tospeak tutor is an AI shown as a video avatar, and each tutor profile says so. There are no human teachers on Tospeak.
How much does Tospeak cost?
On 25 October 2026: the Daily plan cost $20 a month for up to 60 minutes of talking a day, and Unlimited cost $50 a month with no daily cap. You can try it free for 2 minutes a day without an account, or take one 5-minute lesson with a free account. Prices are in US dollars in every language version.
Does Tospeak correct pronunciation?
No. The tutor works from a text transcript of what you say, so it corrects grammar and word choice (by repeating your sentence correctly, and in a recap after adult lessons), but it does not score pronunciation. For pronunciation feedback, an app such as ELSA Speak or a human teacher is better.
Can children use Tospeak?
Tospeak says it suits children from about 7 with a parent nearby, and it has kids and teen topics. Lessons for children use extra moderation, are not recorded, and get no recap. There is no parent dashboard, and a purchase by a minor needs parental consent.
Can I cancel Tospeak?
Yes, any time, through "Manage subscription" in your profile, the cancellation form, email or phone. The plan renews monthly until cancelled. Tospeak's pages describe what happens after cancelling in two different ways (access until the end of the paid period, or termination within 3 business days with pro-rata charging), so check the current terms before you cancel.
Is an AI tutor enough to learn English?
An AI tutor gives you frequent, low-cost speaking practice without booking. On its own it is weaker for structure, accountability and catching every mistake. One option is to combine an AI tutor with a teacher once a week: see AI tutor vs human teacher.
